Crafted from the earth of Gifu Prefecture, the SALIU Matcha Bowl captures the serene essence of traditional Japanese tea culture. The slightly textured surface invites an appreciation for the raw materials, bridging the space between the maker's hands and your own.

The master potters of Tanzangama in Dachi Town, Toki City embrace the philosophy of wabi-sabi, allowing the natural variations in the glaze and clay to speak for themselves. Each of these Mino ware bowls bears subtle, organic differences that honour the firing and hand painting process. As a result, no two pieces are exactly alike.

The brown variant displays an earthy, tonal swirl that blends seamlessly below the dark rim, echoing the natural, warm landscape from which the clay was formed.

The carefully considered shape is designed specifically to allow the bamboo whisk to move freely and create that pristine microfoam. This distinctive bowl is ideal for those who cherish authentic matcha preparation, or wish to elevate their daily tea experience. It also serves as an exquisite gift for admirers of Japanese ceramics, bringing a touch of mindful elegance to any home.

Due to the characteristics of the material, the glaze may be uneven with drips and pinholes, and the colour may vary.

Not microwave safe, hand wash with a soft sponge.

About the Region

Mino Ware

With roots dating back 1,400 years in Gifu Prefecture, today Minoyaki is Japan’s most prolific region for ceramic production, representing a vast landscape of artistry. While it rose to prominence during the Momoyama period as the pinnacle of tea ceremony artistry, the craft later reinvented itself by pivoting to the needs of daily life, turning centuries of artisanal knowledge into a nationwide industry. Unlike regions constrained by a single rigid template, the possibilities of Minoyaki are as infinite as the number of artisans and their pottery.

Our collection steps away from the region’s mass-market output to focus exclusively on its artisanal heart: workshops that balance deep-seated history with individual creative vision. Whether through the revival of ancient glazing techniques or the exploration of modern, sculptural forms, these pieces are selected for their character and warmth. Minoyaki is the quintessential supporting player of the dining table, designed not to dominate, but to elevate the beauty of the everyday.
